The Tem (Kotokoli) of Ghana has been through several hurdles and struggles to achieve its present status in Ghana. The Tem Kotokoli Tribe has made massive inroads in the Ghanaian society by way of traditional governance considering the turbulent and mortifying past Tem/ Kotokolis have endured in the hands of the administrations before the fourth republic Ghana. The amiable people of Tem Kotokoli have gone past just being citizens of Ghana to citizens who are actively involved in public decision making process.
The Kotokoli people are filled with endless potential and possibilities. When it comes to the people of Tem/Kotokoli, there is no such thing as having attained enough. Kotokolis are enterprising, loyal and law abiding people.
His Majesty Wuro Dawood Chedre Brenai II is the overlord and the Supreme Ruler of all Tem in Ghana.
The Supreme Ruler has manifold duties ranging from maintenance of social norms to provision of basic social amenities for his people to creating political awareness among his subjects and advancing changes in human interactions and relationships that transform cultural and current social institutions. The seat of the Overlord is in Kue - the home of all Tem Kotokolis in Ghana and Kue is situated in the Oti Region of Ghana
The Kotokoli/Tem Palace project which also includes daycare and vocational centers has already started in ernest in Kue and when completed will be the seat and residence of the traditional ruler Wuro Isso, His Royal Majesty Wuro Dauda Chedre Brenai II.
The day care and vocational center will serve the underserved and impoverished children and youth in Kue as children will begin their solid school life from the palace and be monitored for success as educating our children is one of the important pillars of our society. Additionally, the youth who have dropped out of school or were unable to further their education after Junior High School would also benefit from vocational training in wood work and joinery, carpentry, beads making and millery, hairdressing, dressmaking and fashion designing. This will eventually transform our youth into purposeful and useful citizens and help shape their future for a better life.
The history of Ghana is made up of numerous contributions and sacrifices by the many countrymen who have served from being common labourers , farmers, drivers, traders and ex service men in the then Gold coast and now Ghana.
Many of these heroes happened to be Kotokolis but unfortunately when Ghana's history is being told they are discounted, overlooked, neglected or unrecognised.
The word ‘Kotokoli’ is a popular name for tribes, called Tem. Tem form part of group of tribes put under the Gur/Gurma ethnic grand group of West Africa found in present Ghana, Togo, Burkina Faso and Benin.
The kotokolis are believed to have migrated from around the present day Chad and settled in present Sokode and Bafilo in Togo and Republic of Benin, where some of them further migrated to Kue-Kotokoli, in the then Volta-North of Ghana, with the administrative capital at Nkwanta, in the Nkwanta-South District of the Oti region.
